Injured Newcastle striker Callum Wilson to miss Forest, Tottenham games
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will only be available again after the upcoming international break, according to head coach Eddie Howe.
Wilson started out at Coventry City and worked his way through to the first team, where he alerted Bournemouth to his instinctive finishing and he made the move from League One to the Championship for £3million.
In the 2018/19 season, Wilson was on fire for Bournemouth, scoring 14 Premier League goals, which led to his England debut against the USA, where he also scored his first international goal.
Following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship in 2020, Wilson made a £20million move to Newcastle United, where he is scoring goals for fun while wearing the iconic number nine shirt.
Wilson made his Coventry debut in a 1-0 League Cup defeat against Hartlepool United in August 2009 and after that chances were limited with a league debut not coming until a 2-0 home defeat against QPR in December 2010.
Wilson was then sent out on loan to non-league Kettering Town, where he only scored one goal in 17 appearances and he then went on loan to Tamworth where he only made three appearances before a foot injury cut the loan spell short.
He scored his first Coventry goal in 2013 against Colchester United in a 2-2 draw. Manager Stephen Pressley then made Wilson a first team regular in the 2013/14 season after a transfer embargo meant that the Sky Blues were unable to strengthen their squad.
The 2013/14 season proved to be the turning point in Wilson’s career, with his tally of 22 goals being the third best in the league and subsequently he earned himself a spot in the League One PFA Team of the Year.
Following his impressive season at Coventry, Wilson earned himself a move to Championship side Bournemouth for a fee of around £3million.
Wilson helped his side to their first ever Premier League promotion in his first season at the club and he was Bournemouth’s top goalscorer as he netted 20 league goals for a second successive season.
He began life well in the Premier League with his first goals coming in a hat-trick in a 4-3 win against West Ham United.
However, just over a month later Wilson ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and was out of action for over six months.
Just under a year after returning from his ACL injury, Wilson then suffered the same injury in his right knee and was on the sidelines for another six months.
In the 2017/18 season, Wilson scored eight goals in 28 appearances including a hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Huddersfield Town, just weeks after returning from his injury.
It was the 2018/19 season that put Wilson’s name on the map, with his partnership with Ryan Fraser helping him to a personal best 14 Premier League goals and international honours then came calling.
Wilson was unable to hit the same standards in the following season as Bournemouth were relegated, with his tally of eight league goals not proving to be enough.
Following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship, Wilson made the move to Newcastle for a fee of £20million.
He hit the ground running on Tyneside with a debut goal in a 2-0 victory against West Ham, before going on to finish the season with 12 premier league goals, which were a key part of Newcastle staying up.
In the 2021/22 season Wilson struggled with injury once again, as he missed four months with a calf injury, despite this he still finished as Newcastle’s top goalscorer, with eight goals from 18 league appearances.
Wilson was reunited with former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, when he joined the club in November 2021, and Wilson’s first full season back with Howe led to a successful season for Newcastle.
In his best Premier League season yet, Wilson finished the season with 18 goals, which helped Newcastle to their first top four finish in 20 years.
Wilson started the 2023/24 season in the same vain, with seven goals in his first 10 appearances coming at an average of one goal per 69 minutes.
Wilson made his Champions League debut for Newcastle in the 0-0 draw against AC Milan and is yet to score a goal in the competition.
Following a good start to the 2018/19 season, Wilson was picked by Gareth Southgate for the first time and scored on his international debut, a 3-0 win in a friendly match against the USA.
After earning four caps, Wilson was not picked in an England squad until the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Most games in Qatar saw Wilson on the bench, however he did come on in England’s 6-2 win against Iran and set up Jack Grealish for England’s sixth goal.
Wilson’s second international goal came from the penalty spot in a 4-0 win against Malta in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Callum Wilson and his wife Stacey have two children, Oritse and Orlagh Wilson.
Wilson is the eldest of six siblings and grew up with his mum in Coventry.
Wilson’s estimated net worth is £15.3million.
Wilson is on a basic salary of £46,000 or £2.4million per year.
