Sifan Hassan denies retirement rumours as she gears up for her first London Marathon
Double Olympic champion Sifan Hassan has been forced to deny rumours that she is quitting track athletics after it came to light that she was planning to run the London Marathon in 2023.
The 30-year-old will run her first marathon in London in April as she briefly readjusts her aims.
Hassan went for the triple crown at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but fell short, winning the 5,000m and 10,000m while also claiming 1500m bronze.
But with the World Championships in Hungary in August the 2019 double world champion insists she will return to add to her medal haul.
"I just want to see if I can do it. I'm a curious person. I want to see how I can do. I'm excited," she said, having been one of Laura Muir's key rivals in the 1500m.
"It's possible, I'm not moving to the marathon just to do a workout but I'm curious, although I'm not totally moving to the marathon.
"I'm planning to do the track, since the Olympics I haven't really done the track season. I've recovered from the Olympic peak, it's been almost two years. I'm excited to be going back to the track again.
"I don't have any dream to add to my legacy. I don't know the route, I don't know if I can run the marathon or if I can be great."
