Olympics 2024: France has prepared the best venues across the country?

Eiffel Tower with Olympic rings

On July 26, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will take place on the Seine banks surrounded by a flotilla of boats and iconic buildings.

Thirty-five sports venues are located throughout France and beyond. Surfers will compete on an island in the Pacific Ocean, 13 are in Paris, 12 in the capital's suburbs, and 10 in other cities.

Meanwhile, France's sports infrastructure remained virtually unchanged. The organizers built only three buildings for the Games, which will continue to function after the Olympics. They have also created an artificial hill for the mountain biking event.

The Olympic Games are the world's largest sporting event, and offers huge potential for sports betting, however, betting on Olympic sports differs from betting on regular events.

Firstly, many of these sports are not popular and well-studied by by 1 dollar deposit bookmakers. Therefore, they seem more predictable for analysing and forecasting.

Also, the participation of top global athletes can lead to unexpected results and higher odds.

Finally, betting and casino expert Nodar Giorgadze believes that, in most cases, bets on the Olympic Games are limited in time. Therefore placing a wager requires quick and accurate decision-making.

Where can we watch the Olympic events in Paris?

Let's start with the fact that in the capital of France, only one monumental building was built for the Games - the La Chapelle Arena, where badminton and rhythmic gymnastics will be held here.

After the Olympic Games, the La Chapelle Arena will become the home court for the Paris basketball club.

Other temporary venues have appeared in Paris including:

- Arena Champion de Mars (wrestling and judo)

- Eiffel Tower arena (beach volleyball)

- Place Trocadero (athletics and road cycling)

The three Parisian stadiums will be used for their usual purposes. Roland Garros will host the tennis tournament and boxing. The Bercy Arena will host the finals of the basketball tournament and the artistic gymnastics competition.

Part of the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre was reconstructed especially for the Olympics - the Paris-South arena will host volleyball, weightlifting, handball and table tennis tournaments.

Some historical monuments will also host Olympic competitions.

 - The Hôtel des Invalides! This is an architectural monument that includes several buildings - a hospital, a facility for veterans, museums, a cathedral and a military necropolis. The tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte is also located here. It was built under Louis XIV in 1687 as a military hospital and nursing home for war veterans. The Esplanade at the foot of the active monument welcomes an archery tournament. The territory will also be used for athletics marathons and road cycling races.

- Place de la Concorde is one of the largest and most beautiful squares in France with a complex history. During the French Revolution, it became the place for many public executions. Now, it is the favourite place for Parisians to walk. So, temporary facilities will be installed here for tournaments in 3x3 basketball, breakdancing, BMX freestyle, and skateboarding.

- The Pont Alexandre III, connecting the Seine banks, was opened in 1900 on the eve of the World Exhibition and is a historical and architectural monument. Especially for the Games, temporary stands will be installed near the bridge for triathlon, open water swimming, and road cycling competitions. Athletes will sail on boats here during the opening of the Olympics.

- The Hotel de Ville was founded in 1357 and burned down during the Paris Commune in 1871. It was later restored at the end of the 19th century. In 2024, its square will become the starting point of the Games' marathon.

- Finally, the Grand Palais will welcome fencers and taekwondoists. It was built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900 and is classified as a historical monument in France. The facility is used for cultural and sporting events. In 2010, the palace hosted the World Fencing Championship.

Olympic Venues 2024 in the vicinity of the capital

In the Paris suburbs, the authorities did an enormous job. Two permanent arenas and a hill for mountain biking were built especially for the Olympics.

The first of the facilities to be prepared for the Games was the Vers-sur-Marne aquatic stadium, built in June 2019 (canoeing, kayaking, rowing slalom).

In 2024, the Olympic Aquatic Centre opened its doors (synchronized swimming, diving, water polo qualifying stage).

Especially for the Games, Elancourt Hill was created instead of quarries and landfills. During the Olympics, it will host mountain biking competitions.

Among the temporary facilities, the Paris-North arena will host the modern pentathlon, boxing - the preliminary stage, and the Le Bourget climbing wall will host sport climbing.

Some pre-existing (but modernised) venues will also be used:

- National Golf Center - golf
- Arena Paris-La-Défense - swimming, water polo
- Stade de France - athletics, rugby sevens
- Stade Yves du Manoir - field hockey
- National Velodrome Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines - track cycling races
- BMX Stadium - BMX motocross

In the suburbs of Paris, the Palace of Versailles - the 1st French venue included in the UNESCO heritage list in 1979 will host the equestrian and modern pentathlon competitions.

In the 17th century, it became the epicentre of French royal power, and in the 19th century, it acquired the status of a national museum. During the Olympics it will have a very different use.

Other French cities that will welcome Olympians

The authorities decided to use ready-made sports facilities outside Paris and its environs.

The men's and women's football tournaments will be hosted by existing football stadiums. These are:

Matmut Atlantic - Bordeaux

Beaujoire-Louis Fonteneau - Nantes

Parc Olympique Lyonnais - Lyon

Geoffroy-Guichard - Saint-Etienne

Allianz Riviera - Nice

Orange Vélodrome - Marseille

Parc des Princes - Paris

Chateauroux will host shooting tournaments, sailing competitions will be held in Marseille harbour, and basketball and handball will be held at the Pierre Mauroy stadium in Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

Meanwhile, surfing competitions stand out. Surfers will head to Teahupoo, a village on the Pacific island of Tahiti, in French Polynesia.

This land is considered the administrative territory of France. You should agree that in 2024 the locations of the Olympic Games will be especially beautiful.
