British Grand Prix tips and predictions: Lando Norris and Max Verstappen to resume heated rivalry at Silverstone
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are set for a rematch at the British GP after the pair collided in Austria. What will be in store this weekend?
The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix sparked into life towards the end of the race when Norris fought Verstappen for the win in front of the Dutchman’s adoring ‘Orange Army’.
However, emotions ran wild after the pair collided on lap 62 when Norris went for a move around the outside of the Red Bull car and they banged wheels going into the braking zone.
The British driver was forced to retire and Verstappen went on to finish in fifth place as the two drivers expressed their frustrations with each other after the race.
Heading into this weekend’s 2024 British Grand Prix, the contest is set to resume and they could be joined by Mercedes home favourite George Russell, after he stole the win from both of them at the Red Bull Ring.
Russell has been in fine form of late, outperforming his fellow British teammate Lewis Hamilton and earning Mercedes their first victory since Brazil 2022, making him one of the favourites to be on that podium again this weekend.
Although, Hamilton did earn his first podium of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix and has a great record at his home race of Silverstone, currently holding the record for the most wins at the circuit with an astonishing eight race victories.
Heading into Silverstone, it is unsure which car will suit this track, but we would expect the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the McLaren’s will be the quickest.
Mercedes will not be far off but there seems to be no hope for Ferrari and Aston Martin at the moment.
The Ferrari has been off the pace since Charles Leclerc’s Monaco Grand Prix victory and Carlos Sainz's podium in Austria has been their best result since.
It gets worse for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin as the team has only scored points twice out of the last five races.
Verstappen’s first British Grand Prix victory came last season (not including his 2020 70th anniversary GP win at Silverstone) as he held off Norris for the win.
We are backing Norris to get revenge at Silverstone and he also offers better prices in the market than the Dutchman does.
Russell to get a podium is our best pick with both McLarens to record a top-six finish considering both of their drivers’ form.
Key stats:
- The McLaren drivers are the only two on the grid to have scored points at every track (race and sprint race) so far this season.
- There have been five different race winners this season (Verstappen, Norris, Russell, Sainz, and Leclerc) with Verstappen the only repeat winner with seven
- The last time a British driver (other than Hamilton) won the British Grand Prix was back in 2000 with David Coulthard
- McLaren’s last victory at Silverstone was in 2008 with Lewis Hamilton
Suggested bets:
- Lando Norris to win
- George Russell to score a podium
- Both McLaren’s to record a top-six finish
