Williams changes design focus to 2024 F1 contender
Williams F1 is ready to cease development for 2023 and focus on next year's car.
Williams will now shift development focus to the 2024 F1 season, after recently seeing its current challenger make impressive strides.
The team based in Grove had a challenging 2022 season, finishing last in the constructors' championship.
However, with the guidance of their new team principal, James Vowles, and modifications to their technical setup, they have achieved substantial improvements with their FW45 challenger.
One significant effort was made during the Canadian Grand Prix, where they introduced a commendable upgrade package. As a result, Williams has climbed to the seventh position in the constructors' standings.
Considering the current state of the car, Dave Robson, the head of vehicle performance, reflected on the team's plans for the remainder of the season and proposed that it would be more sensible to allocate resources towards the FW46.
"I think most of what was in the pipeline, we've now delivered," he said.
"There was the front wing we brought to Silverstone and we'll see that again in Spa. But beyond that, probably just some small things if they come through the wind tunnel and we can make them quite quickly.
"Otherwise, it's now about the right time to start focusing on next year's car. And also just continuing to understand what we've got now, run what we've got through a few different types of circuit and just kind of hone our set-up around it and get the drivers to push the most out of it."
