Stefano Domenicali: New F1 film will be bigger than Drive to Survive
Formula 1's chief executive, Stefano Domenicali, has expressed high expectations for the upcoming F1 film starring Hollywood icon Brad Pitt.
Titled simply 'F1', the movie is anticipated to have a "massive" commercial impact, potentially eclipsing the success of Netflix's highly popular series 'Drive to Survive'.
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski - best known for 'Top Gun: Maverick' - has been in production since last year and is being produced by legendary Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
According to Domenicali, the film aims to elevate Formula 1's already soaring popularity to unprecedented heights.
'Drive to Survive' has already contributed significantly to a surge in viewership, particularly among younger audiences, by offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the lives of drivers and teams.
However, 'F1' promises to delve even deeper into the world of Formula 1, with a narrative that draws inspiration from real-life scenarios.
"I think that if Netflix was big, I think that the movie - and we discussed in Hungary the plan of commercialisation and promotion - will be massive," the F1 boss told Motorsport.com.
"We're going to hit a target that is not yet present."
The movie will feature actual drivers from the current F1 grid and is being filmed extensively during real Grand Prix weekends, adding a layer of authenticity that is expected to resonate strongly with both new and long-time fans of the sport.
Domenicali emphasised that while the film seeks to attract a broader audience, it will remain true to the essence of Formula 1, steering clear of sensationalism to maintain the sport's integrity.
He anticipates that 'F1' will not only build on the momentum created by 'Drive to Survive' but also push the sport's global appeal to new levels.
