Pierre Gasly tops FP3 for Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix

Pierre Gasly of Alpine F1 at Zandvoort

Pierre Gasly showcased his prowess in a tumultuous Dutch Grand Prix Free Practice 3 session by setting the fastest time, despite a significant disruption caused by Logan Sargeant's heavy crash.

The session at Zandvoort was thrown into disarray early on when Sargeant lost control of his Williams FW46 at Turn 4 in challenging wet conditions.

The crash not only obliterated his car but also led to a fire at the rear of the wreckage, further complicating the situation.

The severity of the crash left his participation in qualifying uncertain and halted most of the running for the F1 field.

Fernando Alonso initially led the timesheets before a 40-minute delay, caused by barrier repairs carried out by the marshals, interrupted the session.

When the track action resumed with just three minutes remaining, the drivers, now battling against the clock, struggled to secure clean laps.

In the final flurry, Kevin Magnussen briefly topped the timesheets before being displaced by Gasly, who posted a time of 1:20.311. The Alpine driver‘s performance was particularly notable given the disrupted session and the challenges faced by the drivers.

Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc, among others, were unable to capitalise on the limited track time, finishing further down the order.

Verstappen ended in 17th, Hamilton in 15th, and Leclerc in 16th.
