Mike Krack: Fernando Alonso's radio remark just showed how passionate he is
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has no problem with the way Fernando Alonso expressed his frustrations over the radio during the Japanese Grand Prix.
Alonso was unhappy with the team's decision to pit him early, especially considering the significant impact tyre degradation had on the day.
"You've thrown me to the lions by stopping that early," the F1 veteran was heard remarking over the team radio.
Some perceived the comment as an indication that the Spaniard is not happy with the way things are going at Aston Martin.
However, Krack defended Alonso's comments, explaining that it comes with the territory when communicating with F1 drivers.
"I think you can listen to the 20 drivers, and everybody's really hard," Krack said.
"Everybody's passionate. If the driver would not be doing something like that, what driver is it?
"So, I think, it's fine. For us, we take it as a motivation and it also opens up always a different view of things. So, absolutely fine."
Alonso also complained about his car's lack of straight-line speed, which Krack explained was due to the extra downforce applied to improve tyre wear.
"The more you bolt-on, the better pace you have for better degradation, and vice versa," he said.
"So, it's a matter; you have to make a choice. At the end of the day, we've tried actually to go with a bit lower or to go with higher over the course of the weekend. And we finally decided to race like that.
"I think the car was a bit better than we expected in terms of performance in the race in terms of degradation. So, I think it was the right choice."
