Zinedine Zidane joins Alpine as brand ambassador as team aims to break away from midfield
Alpine has introduced former footballer and Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as a brand ambassador for the Formula 1 team.
At the launch of the new 2023 Formula 1 car, the French World Cup winner expressed his excitement in joining the team and its young talents.
"I had the opportunity to meet Laurent, Davide, and the Alpine team at a Grand Prix and I think we had a good exchange and shared everything together," said Zidane.
Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi, meanwhile, praised Zidane's winning mentality and said that the team could be inspired by his appointment.
Alpine aims to build on their successful 2022 season and break away from the midfield as they look to continue their '100-race' plan.
Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer has laid out his goals for the 2023 season, with the team looking to finish in at least fourth place and in a more convincing fashion.
After finishing in fourth place last season, Alpine has set higher reliability targets and expects more finishes and fewer unforced retirements.
With just under 80 races left to go on their mission, Szafnauer has high expectations for the team, especially Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, who will work collaboratively to deliver the best possible results for the team.
"We have just under 80 races left on this mission, and I'm proud to lead the team on this journey," said Szafnauer. "For 2023, the aim is simple: at a minimum, we must finish in fourth and in a much more convincing fashion.
"I have high expectations from everyone in the team, not least Esteban and Pierre."
