Sergio Perez anticipates Vegas 'chill challenge' for Red Bull at inaugural GP
Formula 1's glittering show is set to light up the Las Vegas Strip Circuit this weekend, marking the debut of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
However, Red Bull's Sergio Perez warns that the cool temperatures in the Nevada desert might not be favourable for the team.
Scheduled for late evening sessions, the upcoming race weekend is expected to bring the coldest conditions of the season. The chilly weather poses a unique challenge as F1's Pirelli tires demand a specific temperature range for optimal grip, requiring drivers to carefully warm up their tires for meaningful lap times.
Perez, speaking to the media, acknowledged the potential impact of the weather on Red Bull's performance. "I think it's going to be something that will be very present there," Perez remarked, emphasizing the need to factor in the temperature variable. He pointed out the difficulty in simulating such conditions accurately and highlighted the importance of on-the-ground knowledge, considering factors like wind direction.
The Mexican driver, who has faced a challenging season, expressed hopes for an improved performance in Las Vegas. His home race in Mexico ended in disappointment with a first-lap crash, but Perez is optimistic about the support he'll receive in the United States. When asked about fan support in Las Vegas, he humorously remarked, "After [Mexico], they're probably not too keen! But there's still a lot out there. No, I do expect a lot of support in Vegas."
As the Formula 1 circus descends upon the iconic Las Vegas Strip, anticipation is high for the new 14-turn street circuit that stretches over six kilometres. With top speeds reaching around 342 kilometres per hour on the long straight across the strip, the venue is poised to rival Monza for average speeds.
The inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix promises excitement, but the chilly temperatures pose a potential challenge for Red Bull, adding an intriguing element to the weekend's racing narrative.
