Red Bull's rising star Liam Lawson set for full-time Formula 1 drive in 2025

Red Bull Motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has boldly stated that Liam Lawson will soon make a full-time debut in Formula 1, perhaps as early as the 2025 season.

Lawson's journey to the pinnacle of motorsport began with an unexpected opportunity. When Daniel Ricciardo suffered a hand injury during free practice at the Dutch Grand Prix in August, Lawson was called upon to step in at AlphaTauri.

The 21-year-old New Zealander grabbed the chance with both hands, showcasing great performances that caught the attention of fans and experts alike. Notably, he secured his first career points in Singapore, leaving a lasting impression.

Despite his impressive stint as a stand-in driver, Lawson did not secure a full-time seat for the 2024 season, as Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda retained their positions at AlphaTauri.

Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner, emphasized that there were "no guarantees" about Lawson's future in Formula 1. However, Dr. Helmut Marko, a seasoned figure in motorsport, has unequivocally affirmed Lawson's destiny in the sport.

In an interview with Kleine Zeitung, Marko praised Lawson's tenacity, describing him as "a tough racer" and "one of the strongest drivers ever in a duel." Marko's conviction in Lawson's potential is unwavering: "With the role as a reserve driver, he has a big task next year, but by 2025 at the latest, he will be in a Formula 1 car anyway."

The Red Bull junior driver program is renowned for its rigorous but effective approach to grooming talent. It has produced success stories, including the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, who went on to become race-winners in Formula 1. However, the program has also witnessed its share of hopefuls falling short of the mark.

Marko's assessment of Lawson's capabilities is nothing short of glowing: "Lawson certainly has the potential to be a Grand Prix winner, as he has mastered all the tasks so far and in the most difficult conditions." He alluded to Lawson's baptism by rain at Zandvoort, where the young driver was thrust into challenging weather conditions, displaying his mettle under pressure.

As the Formula 1 season unfolds, racing fans can anticipate the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled for the 8th of October. This thrilling race will take place at the Losail International Circuit, situated just outside Lusail, north of Doha. With the championship battle heating up, drivers are poised to continue pushing their limits in pursuit of victory.
