Red Bull driver Max Verstappen charts a new course for his racing career
Max Verstappen, Red Bull's three-time Formula 1 World Champion, is looking beyond his current contract, which extends until 2028, as he contemplates a post-F1 career.
The Dutch ace has expressed his intentions to immerse himself in the world of sim racing and nurture emerging talent in the virtual motorsport domain.
While Verstappen's current commitment to F1 is evident, he has voiced concerns about the recent changes in the sport, including the contentious F1 Sprint format. These reservations have cast a shadow of doubt on his long-term involvement in Formula 1.
Verstappen, known for his versatility and desire to explore various forms of racing, has now set his sights on a new challenge – the world of endurance racing. Despite his busy schedule on the Formula 1 circuit, Verstappen is an avid enthusiast of sim racing and often dedicates his free time to competing online.
In a recent interview with media, Verstappen shared his aspirations for his post-F1 journey, which encompasses fostering young talents in the sim racing realm. He recognizes that traditional motorsport pathways, such as karting, have become increasingly expensive. To address this issue, Verstappen intends to leverage his expertise and resources.
"I have a lot of plans racing-related and trying to help young talent," he stated. "So as I have my own sim team, I do believe that there is a possibility to get back to sim racing, and I do see a lot of potential in some of these guys, that they can make it in the real world as well."
Verstappen's vision extends beyond the confines of virtual racing. He envisions a pathway for sim racers to transition into professional motorsport. While reaching Formula 1 might not be the ultimate goal for these talents, Verstappen believes they can find their place in the real racing world, whether in endurance racing or other categories.
Verstappen's dedication to this cause is palpable: "That's something that I'm very passionate about, and hopefully I can make it happen very soon."
As he contemplates the future of his racing career, Max Verstappen remains focused on the current Formula 1 season. The next race is set to take place in Austin, Texas, on October 22, at the renowned Circuit of the Americas. This track, spanning 5.5 kilometres, has been a fixture on the F1 calendar since 2012, marking a return after a four-year hiatus.
The United States Grand Prix is not the only event that showcases Formula 1's growing popularity in the United States. This season will also feature the Miami Grand Prix, further solidifying the sport's presence in the country. Additionally, a new event in Las Vegas is scheduled later in the season, affirming Formula 1's continued expansion and appeal to American audiences.
