Nico Hulkenberg dubs Haas's hopes for Formula 1 revival 'magical'

Nico Hulkenberg has cast a shadow of doubt over Haas' prospects of resurrecting their current Formula 1 campaign, suggesting that the team will require nothing short of "magic" to stage a turnaround.

Presently embroiled in a fierce battle for seventh place in the Constructors' Championship with Williams, Haas have endured a disheartening spell, failing to secure any points in their last two outings, while Alex Albon has propelled their adversaries ahead.

In June, following a recalibration, Haas plummeted to seventh in the aerodynamic testing hours chart, effectively exhausting their entire allocation. Despite the predicament, team principal Guenther Steiner has disclosed that they are contemplating commencing work on their 2024 car, while still endeavouring to enhance their current package.

When probed about the possibility of a resurgence, Hulkenberg articulated to the media, "Frankly, Williams appears to be in dire straits. They, along with McLaren, have unquestionably made significant strides this season. I can't fathom how we can engineer a reversal, unless we conjure up something truly magical."

During qualifying for the Italian GP, both Haas drivers failed to infiltrate the top ten. Hulkenberg secured the loftiest position, commencing from the 13th slot on the grid. Regrettably, as the race unfolded, he progressively retreated towards the rear of the field due to acute tyre degradation.

While the German harbours no illusions of the team achieving extraordinary feats, he remains cautiously sanguine, affirming, "We are trailing behind our competitors, and at Monza, we were the solitary team to contribute nothing. Consequently, our aspirations for points here were utterly unattainable. It's vexing, but we must accept the situation and look ahead to the Singapore circuit, which might better suit our disposition."

He added, "I don't anticipate any meteoric rises, but I will have access to the new front wing, so I am harbouring modest optimism. We won't be setting the world ablaze, but I anticipate a slight improvement."

The forthcoming Formula 1 spectacle on the horizon is the Singapore Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of September 15-17. The event, the 16th of the Formula 1 season, transpires on the demanding Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore, encompassing 5.063km of undulating street surface and unforgiving humid conditions, a true trial of drivers' mettle.
