Monza to undergo a facelift: Racing into the future of Formula 1

Commencing this week with a ceremony on the start/finish straight, the ambitious renovations are slated to conclude in June, just in time for the 2024 Italian Grand Prix weekend scheduled from August 30 to September 1.

The comprehensive overhaul encompasses a complete track resurfacing, the construction of a cutting-edge underpass, upgrades to the pit building facilities, and a series of grandstand enhancements, notably at the revered first corner.

While Monza currently have an F1 race contract until 2025, the venue's future hung in the balance, prompting Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali to emphasize the imperative for facility upgrades. The circuit's fate rested on meeting these modernization demands.

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Italian Federation, emphasized the significance of the renovations: "Our main goal is to bring the Autodromo back up to speed. We can no longer afford problems with fan flow, and we must offer greater comfort. We have set ourselves three goals, with underpasses and enhanced grandstands being the first two."

He continued, "Each grandstand will be an island with all necessary services inside, so that the public will not have to move around. Finally, a permanent roofing will be built over the pit building, reinforcing the pillars for heightened structure."

With a nod to the upcoming 2024 season, Formula 1 enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate the spectacle that Monza's revamped circuit promises. As teams and drivers gear up for the Bahrain International Circuit pre-season testing in Sakhir, the motorsport world braces for the unveiling of the new season's potential on February 23-25. 

The revamped Monza circuit stands as a testament to Formula 1's commitment to innovation and the enduring legacy of historic racing venues.
