McLaren driver Oscar Piastri denies Red Bull Formula 1 seat rumours
Oscar Piastri has been garnering attention for his outstanding performances with McLaren during his debut season in Formula 1.
Oscar Piastri, the 2021 Formula 2 champion and McLaren's standout rookie, has addressed speculations linking him to a Red Bull Formula 1 seat.
Despite impressing in the first 12 races of 2023, narrowly missing out on a podium finish at Silverstone, and securing second place in the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint race, Piastri remains grounded.
Ex-team boss Eddie Jordan had touted Piastri as a potential candidate for Red Bull's dominant team, but the Australian driver was quick to dismiss the rumours to reporters, stating, "It's flattering to have those comments. I'm very happy where I am."
While acknowledging the praise, Piastri emphasized his contentment with his current team. "It's always nice to be talked about in those kinds of ways," he said, "I think my season's been quite good for the most part, I think there's definitely been some mistakes or moments I wish I could have had again, but with hindsight, it's very easy to say those kinds of things."
Looking forward to further progress, Piastri expressed his eagerness to learn and improve. He expressed gratitude for having Lando Norris, his formidable teammate, as a benchmark to measure against, saying, "I've got a very strong teammate to learn from who, just by being a benchmark, is a big help for me getting back up to speed."
With Formula 1 taking a summer break, the action is set to resume at the Dutch Grand Prix on 28 August at Circuit Zandvoort.
As Piastri concentrates on his continuous growth and development, the motorsport community eagerly anticipate witnessing the young talent's forthcoming accomplishments on the track.
