Helmut Marko stands firm behind Sergio Perez after Japanese Grand Prix roller-coaster

Podium for 3rd placed Sergio Perez (MEX) Oracle Red Bull Racing

Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko offered his unwavering support for Sergio Perez, who faced a series of setbacks during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Perez, known for his resilience, encountered adversity from the outset, ultimately retiring from the race. Meanwhile, his teammate, Max Verstappen, delivered a spectacular performance, securing a commanding victory.

The race at Suzuka marked a significant milestone for Red Bull, clinching their sixth Constructors' Championship, a moment celebrated in close proximity to Honda's factory. With the Qatar Grand Prix on the horizon, Perez seeks redemption on the Losail International Circuit.

The Japanese Grand Prix unfolded as a roller-coaster of challenges for Sergio Perez. A series of incidents marred his race, commencing with an early incident that forced him into the pits for a new front wing. As the race progressed, Perez was slapped with not one, but two time penalties.

The first was for a Safety Car infringement, and the second came after an incident with Haas' Kevin Magnussen. These penalties ultimately led Red Bull to retire Perez's car, although he briefly reappeared to serve the time penalty incurred from the contact with Magnussen.

Reflecting on Perez's tumultuous race day, Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull's advisor, offered insight into the challenges faced by the Mexican driver. "He had an unfortunate day which originated in the free practice sessions," Marko commented to Viaplay. "He couldn't match Max's speed, and today just everything went wrong, but we are confident of a strong comeback from him."

In stark contrast to Perez's difficulties, Max Verstappen demonstrated his prowess on the Suzuka circuit. Verstappen's performance was nothing short of dominant, as he crossed the finish line nearly 20 seconds ahead of Lando Norris in second place.

Marko praised Verstappen's resilience, noting, "He drove another incredible race. True, he didn't have the best start, but just as well he managed to control the McLarens, after which he finished the race relatively easily."

Verstappen's victory at Suzuka held special significance for Red Bull, as it secured their sixth Constructors' Championship. Dr. Marko expressed his delight in achieving this milestone in Japan, emphasizing the team's close relationship with Honda. "It's so nice that it's happening here," he remarked. "The Honda factory is only a few kilometres away."

Looking ahead, Formula 1 fans can anticipate the Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of October 6-8. This event marks the 18th race of the Formula 1 season and will take place on the Losail International Circuit, a permanent venue located just outside of Lusail, north of Doha.

As the Formula 1 season continues, all eyes will be on Sergio Perez as he seeks redemption and Max Verstappen, aiming to maintain his exceptional form.
