George Russell accuses Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll of questionable tactics in Azerbaijan
Mercedes driver George Russell has expressed his disappointment over his performance during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Mercedes driver George Russell has voiced his concern over Lance Stroll's tactics during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The incident occurred when both drivers made a pit stop at the same time after the Safety Car was deployed in the early stages of the race.
Aston Martin chose to double-stack Fernando Alonso and Stroll, with the Canadian seemingly dropping back behind Alonso to avoid any delays in the pits. However, Russell managed to overtake Stroll while driving down the pit lane. Although the FIA noted the incident, no further action was deemed necessary.
Russell accused Stroll of breaking the rules and stated: "It was obviously a bit questionable but it was quite satisfying to get ahead. [It was] a good pit stop by the guys." The FIA regulations state that drivers should maintain their position as they approach the pit lane.
Russell admitted that he was disappointed with himself for losing out at the race restart after overtaking Stroll. "It was very close between us and Aston Martin. A small difference can make a big change in terms of results," he said.
Russell finished the race in eighth place, with Stroll ahead in seventh.
The next F1 race is the Miami Grand Prix, which takes place on Sunday at the Miami International Autodrome.
