Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix secured through to 2025 with contract extension
The Belgian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar until 2025 following the announcement of a one-year contract extension.
The long-term future of the Spa-Francorchamps venue in the Ardennes remains in doubt as F1 chiefs continue to expand the sport's schedule beyond its traditional European heartland.
Concerns about the track's safety record have also been expressed. Dutch teenager Dilano Van ‘t Hoff was killed after a crash at Spa-Francorchamps in a rain-hit Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) race in July.
But the fixture in Belgium will be present for at least the next two seasons.
F1 boss Stefano Domenicali said: "Spa is synonymous with Formula One having been one of the circuits in our first-ever season and is much-loved by fans and drivers alike, so I am delighted to extend our relationship with them until 2025.
"The promoter has taken big strides in the last few years to improve the fan experience and infrastructure, and work is ongoing between all the stakeholders with a clear focus on delivering safe and exciting racing."
Max Verstappen won this year's race in Belgium en route to taking his third world championship in as many years.
A record 24-round campaign – starting in Bahrain on March 2 and ending 10 months later in Abu Dhabi on December 8 – has already been confirmed for 2024.
