FIA issue warning to Lance Stroll over Qatar Grand Prix conduct
The FIA has taken action in response to Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll's behaviour during the Qatar Grand Prix weekend.
The incident, which occurred after Stroll's qualifying disappointment, involved him venting his frustration by tossing his steering wheel and pushing his trainer, Henry Howe. Stroll's reaction was not taken lightly, and the FIA Compliance Officer launched an investigation into the matter.
Stroll's struggles began during qualifying when he failed to make it into Q2, leading to a visibly exasperated response. Following this episode, he provided a succinct seven-word interview to the media on live television. Nonetheless, the Canadian driver was quick to clarify that his relationship with trainer Howe remained intact, despite the outburst.
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack shed light on the situation, attributing Stroll's outburst to the immense pressure and expectations placed upon him. Stroll had been enduring a difficult season, having failed to secure a single point since the summer break. His challenging run culminated in a massive qualifying accident that sidelined him from the Singapore Grand Prix.
The FIA's official response to the incident was clear and stern. They confirmed that Stroll had issued an apology for his actions during the Qatar Grand Prix. The FIA Compliance Officer acknowledged this apology but, in no uncertain terms, issued a written warning.
This warning served as a reminder to Stroll of his obligations as a competitor, as outlined in the FIA Code of Ethics and other ethical and conduct guidelines established in the sporting regulations. The FIA also took the opportunity to reiterate its zero-tolerance stance against any form of misconduct, condemning actions that may lead to physical harassment.
