Ferrari's bid for F1 glory: Embracing Red Bull's winning formula

Frederic Vasseur of Ferrari

In the quest for Formula 1 dominance, Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur has set his sights on emulating Red Bull's triumphant approach to catapult the Prancing Horse into title contention.

Vasseur, reflecting on Ferrari's 2023 season, which culminated in a commendable third place in the Constructors' Championship and a solitary Grand Prix victory courtesy of Carlos Sainz in Singapore, acknowledged the need for a strategic shift.

To this end, Ferrari, known for its bathtub design, took inspiration from Red Bull, reconfiguring its car concept design to incorporate the downwash sidepods that defined Red Bull's successful 2023 campaign.

However, Vasseur's vision extends beyond the mere aesthetic. Drawing from Red Bull's prowess in track-side operations, reliability, and strategic acumen, he emphasized the importance of Ferrari mirroring these attributes. In a statement to the media, Vasseur articulated, "You have a group of people working together for years, and when you arrive in this group, you need to understand how the group is working before taking any action or decision."

He further highlighted the necessity of an assertive mindset, urging his team to be ambitious, take risks, and not shy away from challenges. While acknowledging the significant strides made in the first year under his leadership, Vasseur stressed the importance of pushing boundaries, citing Red Bull's fearless approach as a guiding direction.

"The culture, when Red Bull is performing at the limit and aggressive on every single topic, is a direction we have to take, but we did a good step for year one," Vasseur affirmed.

As the curtain fell on the exhilarating 2023 season, the Formula 1 community eagerly anticipates the dawn of the 2024 campaign. With teams and drivers recharging during a well-deserved break, the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir will host the official F1 pre-season testing from February 23-25.

This 5.412-kilometre track, synonymous with the Bahrain Grand Prix, will witness fierce competition as teams showcase their potential, setting the stage for an enthralling season ahead.

Ferrari, fuelled by Vasseur's strategic vision, are poised to embark on this journey with a clear objective — embrace the winning formula that propelled Red Bull to glory and stake their claim at the forefront of Formula 1.
