Christian Horner: Red Bull's dominance in Formula 1 amplified by cost cap regulations
Red Bull boss Christian Horner candidly acknowledges that the team's recent overwhelming success in Formula 1 has been enhanced by the implementation of cost cap regulations.
Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, concedes that the team's recent supremacy in Formula 1 holds even greater significance due to the implementation of cost cap regulations.
Since the advent of ground effect rules at the start of 2022, Horner has steered the team to an impressive tally of 27 victories out of 32 Grands Prix, including a flawless record of 10 wins in the ongoing '23 season leading up to the British Grand Prix.
The triumph at Silverstone by Max Verstappen marked the team's eleventh consecutive win, equalling McLaren's long-standing record set in 1988.
Under the current financial regulations, teams face limitations on their annual expenditure. These regulations were enforced prior to the 2021 season, impacting big-budget teams such as Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari, who have seen their financial resources curtailed.
It is within this constrained environment that Red Bull has emerged triumphant once again, establishing a second era of prosperity following the reign of Sebastian Vettel from 2010 to 2013.
"Yeah, I think it is," Horner acknowledged during the Austrian Grand Prix when queried about the significance of success under the cost cap restrictions. "It's testament to the way the entire team operates because the cost cap compels us to make difficult decisions regarding development, personnel, and retention."
"We have bid farewell to some long-standing employees in recent months, but as a team, we must continue to evolve," he added.
"The team's culture and spirit are what propel us forward. I believe we are currently performing at the highest level in our 19-year history. This is a truly remarkable period for the team," Horner stated.
He concluded, "As I often say, it's a matter of 'how long can we sustain it? How long can we keep the momentum going?'"
Mark your calendars for Sunday, 23 July, as the Hungarian Grand Prix awaits at the Hungaroring, promising another exhilarating battle on the track.
