Christian Horner quashes speculation on Adrian Newey's future at Red Bull
Red Bull's Team Principal, Christian Horner, has put an end to rumours swirling around the future of the team's Chief Technology Officer, Adrian Newey, delivering a blow to their Formula 1 rivals.
Newey, a renowned figure in the F1 world with a career spanning back to the late-1980s, has designed numerous World Championship-winning cars for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull.
The RB19, Red Bull's latest car, has been dominant in the opening three rounds of the current F1 campaign, with its aerodynamic efficiency lauded as its defining factor, enabling drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to overtake with ease.
Speculation arose last month about Newey's contract with the Milton Keynes-based team, but Horner has clarified the situation, saying, "His heart is still very much in Formula 1 and his commitment to the team is... We don't talk about contracts or longevity of contracts, but he'll be here for many years to come."
Horner dismissed the rumours as typical of the F1 paddock, stating, "There's always going to be rumours in this paddock, that's Formula 1." He also highlighted Newey's invaluable contribution beyond F1, with his engineering expertise being utilized in Red Bull's projects in sailing's America's Cup, where they are partnered with Alinghi Racing.
"He's such an important and popular part of our team," Horner added. "It's great to have him with us for the long term, but also to be involved in some of the things we're now getting into."
With Newey's continued commitment and expertise, Red Bull looks set to maintain their strong performance in F1 and beyond. The next F1 race will be held in Azerbaijan on April 30th, at the challenging Baku City Circuit.
