Red Bull's Christian Horner responds to Toto Wolff's frustration over Max Verstappen's dominance
Red Bull boss Christian Horner has fired back at Toto Wolff, boss of the Mercedes Formula 1 team, following Wolff's admission that he is "pissed off" by Max Verstappen's relentless success.
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, has fired back at Mercedes boss Toto Wolff after Wolff expressed his frustration over Max Verstappen's dominant performance in Formula 1.
Following Verstappen's impressive victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, where he finished 24 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Wolff admitted to being "pissed off" by Verstappen's success.
However, Horner, undeterred by Wolff's comments, calmly responded, saying, "Losing hurts, but I don't pay a great deal of attention to what is said." Speaking to the media, including Planet Sport, Horner emphasized the importance of the final score sheet, which currently reflects Red Bull's strong position.
"After spending seven years striving to reach a winning position, we have worked incredibly hard as a team to get where we are today," Horner explained. "It's not just Max; the entire team is operating at a high level, and we have a phenomenal car. Max's development as a driver has been remarkable, and his performance in the car is truly impressive."
Verstappen's victory in Barcelona marked his 40th career win, a testament to his natural talent and growth over the past seven years. When asked about the biggest change in Verstappen during this time, Horner highlighted an incident during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend involving Helmut Marko's phone.
"In 2016, he was raw, incredibly fast, and naturally talented," Horner reminisced. "But now, he possesses experience and a well-rounded approach. The fact that he can recognize Helmut Marko's phone ringing while driving demonstrates his exceptional awareness and elevates him to another level."
Horner concluded on an optimistic note, stating, "The exciting thing about Max is that he continues to improve. He still has untapped potential."
With Red Bull's current success and Verstappen's ongoing evolution as a driver, the team remains a formidable force in Formula 1.
