Andretti's path to Formula 1 earns praise from Mercedes driver George Russell

Mercedes F1 driver George Russell is optimistic about Andretti's potential in Formula 1, expressing support for their entry as the 11th team in the championship.

The FIA recently granted approval for Michael Andretti's Andretti Formula Racing LLC to move forward, following a thorough selection process that left three other hopefuls sidelined. Now, Andretti are in the final stages of "commercial talks" with Formula One management, edging closer to realizing their Formula 1 ambitions.

However, not everyone is thrilled about the prospect of a new entrant into the world of Formula 1. The existing ten teams have voiced concerns that an additional outfit could have financial repercussions, leading to a reduction in the prize pot available to the current participants.

On the flip side, Lewis Hamilton, another Mercedes driver, sees the potential for job creation within the sport if Andretti successfully joins the grid.

George Russell, though non-committal, acknowledges the merit of Andretti's efforts and the need for quality competition in Formula 1. He maintains an open stance, stating, "I think Formula 1's the pinnacle and we want to see quality competition, so I'm not for, I'm not against.

"But definitely if there were to be an extra team, it's got to be a quality outfit, one that can add to the sport. We want to see competition, in an ideal world you want to see all 10 teams fighting against one another."

While the off-track discussions about Formula 1's future simmer, the on-track action continues to thrill fans.

The upcoming United States Grand Prix, set for October 22 in Austin, Texas, promises to be a highlight of the season. This event unfolds on the picturesque 5.5-kilometre Circuit of the Americas, which has become a fan-favourite track.

Notably, the popularity of Formula 1 in the United States is on the rise, and COTA is not the sole American venue to host a race this season. The Miami Grand Prix is poised to return, while a new race in Las Vegas is scheduled for later in the season. These developments have Formula 1 enthusiasts across the country eagerly anticipating more action-packed racing.
