Alex Albon hints at Lando Norris joining Red Bull amid McLaren's resurgence

Alexander Albon and Lando Norris

In the world of Formula 1, the future is always uncertain, and driver transfers and team dynamics are always a topic of intrigue.

Recently, Williams driver Alex Albon has hinted at a potential move for Lando Norris to join Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing.

Norris, who has been putting up impressive performances for McLaren this season, caught everyone's attention when a significant upgrade package transformed the team from a backmarker to a front-runner.

Since the introduction of these upgrades to the MCL60, Norris has consistently been one of the top-scoring drivers, trailing only behind the dominant Max Verstappen in the points tally.

This sudden surge in Norris's form has piqued the interest of Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner. Horner revealed that there have been discussions with Norris regarding a race seat at Red Bull in recent years. However, he also emphasized that Red Bull's junior program would play a crucial role in driver decisions, given the wealth of talent available within the team.

When asked about the possibility of Norris making the switch to Red Bull, former Red Bull driver Alex Albon shared his insights with Sky Italia. Albon mentioned, "I think if he wants it, yes [he can switch]. But let's see because I think no one enjoys being Max's teammate. It's hard - I have experience with that." Albon's experience as Verstappen's teammate gives weight to his statement.

However, Albon added that an invitation to join Red Bull had been extended to Norris for some time, indicating that the team had been considering him. He acknowledged the strong bond Norris has with McLaren, making it a complex decision. Albon said, "It's hard to say now because, just like I have with Williams, you can tell the relationship Lando has with McLaren is very strong, and for now, it looks like there's no reason to change."

As the Formula 1 season continues to unfold, fans eagerly await the Qatar Grand Prix, this weekend, the next exciting race on the calendar.

The race will take place at the Losail International Circuit, a permanent venue located just outside Lusail, north of Doha. This event marks the 17th race of the season, with drivers pushing themselves to the limit in their quest for victory.

With Norris's name in the mix for a potential Red Bull seat, the world of Formula 1 remains as captivating and unpredictable as ever.
