Christian Horner: Lewis Hamilton is wrong about Red Bull and Sergio Perez
In a swift response to Lewis Hamilton's recent remarks, Red Bull boss Christian Horner rejected suggestions that Sergio Perez lacks adequate support from the team.
Sergio Perez has navigated a challenging season, marked by an initial burst of success with two victories in the first four races, followed by a considerable gap behind his championship-winning teammate, Max Verstappen, in the drivers' standings, amounting to 251 points.
As Perez grappled with a performance decline, speculations arose regarding his future at Red Bull, despite having a contract that extends into the next year. The possibility of a replacement in 2024 has been the subject of ongoing discussion.
Before the Mexican Grand Prix, where Perez's race ended abruptly in a first-turn crash, Lewis Hamilton commented on what he perceived as a lack of full support from Red Bull for their driver's journey to overcome his current challenges.
"I don't think his team has been massively supportive of him," Hamilton said.
"I wouldn't say team, because there's a lot of people, but one particular spokesperson has not been great in helping psychologically."
Horner has vehemently defended Red Bull against these accusations.
"It's very nice that Lewis has so much care and attention [for Perez] when he was questioning the validity of Max's team-mate only a few weeks ago," said Horner, as quoted by motorsportweek.com.
"But look, there's always rumours that are circulating in this paddock, especially when there's very little to write about.
"[Perez] has a great relationship with the team, a strong relationship with his team-mate, and we want to see him finish second in the championship, which is something we've never achieved before, to have a one-two."
