Charles Leclerc hopes Ferrari can overcome bouncing issues
Charles Leclerc is hopeful Ferrari will soon be competitive again in F1 if they can fix their ongoing bouncing issues.
Since the introduction of a major upgrade at the Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari's fortunes have taken a downturn.
The SF-24, which had shown promise early in the F1 season, has started to suffer from severe bouncing, a problem reminiscent of the early days of ground effect aerodynamics.
As a result, Ferrari have accumulated only 52 points, falling behind Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes, who have each secured victories in the interim.
The team's struggles were highlighted by their performance post-Barcelona, where they managed just two podium finishes.
Despite this, Leclerc remains hopeful. "I think once we eliminate our bouncing issues completely, we can regain a high level of performance," Leclerc told the media. He believes that addressing the bouncing problem is crucial to improving their overall speed and competitiveness.
Leclerc explained that the bouncing issue has been a significant obstacle in their development. "This problem has been slowing us down in the development race," he said.
"We are currently focusing on solving it. Once we get rid of the bouncing, I am confident it will lead to a substantial improvement."
Ferrari's struggles have been particularly evident in qualifying sessions, where they have struggled to match the pace of their rivals. Leclerc acknowledged that while race pace remains strong, the team faced challenges in one-lap performance.
"I don't think we can fix this tendency with just set-up changes," he admitted. "It is something that will require upgrades. If we can address these issues, I am confident our qualifying pace will improve."
Looking ahead, Leclerc remains hopeful as the Formula 1 season continues. The next race, the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, is set for Sunday, July 28.
Leclerc and Ferrari will be eager to show signs of recovery and reclaim their position as serious contenders in the championship.
