Bernie Ecclestone voices support for Felipe Massa's lawsuit against FIA and F1
Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone supports Felipe Massa's legal action against the FIA, Formula One, and himself over the 2008 Singapore GP controversy, calling it "the right thing to do."
Massa's lawsuit, filed in the London High Court six months after initiating legal proceedings, targets the FIA for allegedly failing to investigate properly and Formula One for potentially overlooking the scandal.
The incident, dubbed 'Crashgate,' involved Nelson Piquet Jr deliberately crashing to aid his teammate Fernando Alonso, altering the race's outcome.
Massa narrowly missed out on the championship to Lewis Hamilton, who finished third in Singapore.
Ecclestone's recent remarks reignited Massa's pursuit of justice, although he later claimed to have no recollection of his comments.
"If he had asked me, I would have said it was the complete right thing to do, to sue, and to let an English judge decide what is right and wrong," Ecclestone stated.
"I cannot say anything about the outcome and what will happen.
"I have not got a clue, I don't think anyone has, but from his point of view, it is better that an English judge comes up with a verdict. It will be of more help for him."
