UFC Fight Night tips: Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Marcos Rogerio de Lima to slug it out until the end

Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC Fight Night weigh-in

Heavyweight sluggers who look to stand and trade do battle as Waldo “Salsa Boy” Cortes-Acosta takes on Marcos “Pezao” Rogerio de Lima. Check out our preview, key stats and suggested bet for the fight.

A volatile heavyweight division sees two men at either ends of their careers face off when Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Marcos Rogerio de Lima meet inside the octagon.

"Salsa Boy" is a Dominican slugger who is so far perfect in his MMA career at 9-0. An early career transition over from professional boxing saw him leave the sport but not his love of throwing punches, currently holding four wins by knockout using his boxing heavy style.

While "Salsa Boy" is just starting out, "Pezao" looks to be slowing his career down. A member of the UFC roster since 2014, when he competed on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, "Pezao" has used his stand and bang style to win the hearts of fans along with nine fights in the UFC.

Both men know where their skills lie, despite winning his last fight by submission against Andrei Arlovski, "Pezao" had not previously submitted an opponent in over six years, when he forced Clint Hester to tap to an arm triangle choke at UFC 197.

Despite being undefeated in his career, an inability to finish lower tier opposition such as Jared Vanderaa and Chase Sherman have raised questions over Cortes-Acosta's skills.

However, considering he fought four times last year including two fights in the UFC and won them all, "Salsa Boy" clearly has a skillset that belongs in the octagon, but how far that will take him is another question entirely.

Key stats

Cortes-Acosta has a career record of 4 knockouts, 1 submission and 4 decisions in his 9 total contests.
"Pezao" has five submission losses in the UFC but no knockout losses.

Suggested bet

Fight to go the distance: Yes.
