UFC 285: Mateusz Gamrot to face tough test against replacement opponent Jalin Turner
Jalin Turner was due to watch UFC 285 from home, but when the opportunity arose to take on Mateusz Gamrot on a PPV main card, the American took it with both hands.
Gamrot was originally due to face Dan Hooker, however the Kiwi broke his hand in training and the call went out to see who wanted to fight the Polish grappling ace on short notice - to which Turner happily obliged.
Gamrot is a dangerous opponent for anyone in the lightweight division. The 32-year-old boasts a fearsome 21-2 record and has elite wrestling and submission abilities which he clearly showcased in his decision victory over Arman Tsarukyan and his submission win against Jeremy Stephens.
Turner may not have the same credentials but he certainly has the skills. Standing at 6'3" with a 77" reach, Turner can hit you from anywhere and his five fight finishing streak has shown off his slick striking and submissions to all who tune in.
Considering his massive size, Turner throws lightening fast kicks to the head to follow up his punches, there are very few who have slicker combinations than "The Tarantula".
Both men know where they excel in the octagon, a classic striker vs grappler battle, whichever man can impose their gameplan best will come out the victor in this contest.
Despite excellent takedown defense, I have to give the edge to Gamrot in what is guaranteed to be an excellent fight that could go either way.
Key Stats
This is Turner's 4th visit in a row to the T-Mobile arena, he has finished all three previous fights before the end of round two.
The last time Gamrot fought someone taller than him was his decision loss to Guram Kutateladze.
Suggested Bet
Mateusz Gamrot to win by decision.
