UFC legend Jon Jones teases highly anticipated return at heavyweight

Jon Jones speaks during the UFC 152 pre-fight press conference

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones released a video with a teasing caption ahead of his planned return to the octagon.

MMA's bad boy hasn't fought (in the cage, at least) since his decision victory over Dominik Reyes at UFC 247 in early 2020. Later that year, Jones relinquished his Light Heavyweight belt - one that he's defended no less than 11 times - and revealed his desire to move up to the big boys at heavyweight.

On Thursday, Jones took to Instagram to show the fans, as well as his future opponents, his progress on the pads…

"Right now I'm exactly where I need to be, I'm excited to see myself in a few months when things actually start to ramp up," wrote the Hall of Famer.

"Feeling sharp across the board."
While the transformation into a UFC heavyweight contender can't happen overnight, Jones' "return" is arguably losing clout.

It's been over a year now since the first suggestion that Jones was in line to fight former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, so even that option has seemingly gathered dust on the Shelf of Possibility in the dark corner of the UFC's matchmaking room. Even the ever-productive UFC rumour mill has gone quiet on the Jonny Bones front.

Not that Jones has been absent from the limelight…
Often in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Jones was arrested, again, in September 2021 while living his best life in Las Vegas, allegedly assaulting a woman and definitely headbutting a police car.
In the fallout - which included bodycam footage of the bizarre police car incident - he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in December.

Rest assured, the mercurial Jon "Bones" Jones will be in the headlines again, but it's a coin-flip whether he's in handcuffs or not...
