DEADLY PRESS (6) finished 3.5 lengths from the winner in fifth last start after being in the firing line on the corner over 6½f at Bendigo, an improvement on his sixth at Sandown-Hillside the run before. Faces an easier assignment so he is one of the main contenders. PODARGONI (4) improved sharply on his fifth two starts back at Wangaratta with success over 6f at Ballarat Synthetic two-and-a-half weeks ago, getting home by 0.8 lengths after being prominent at the bend. Suitably placed so anticipating another big run. FABRICE (8) was responsible for a better run last start, beaten 2.5 lengths into fourth over 7f at Sale. Better than recent efforts suggest.
