Newcastle free racing tip: Three-time course-distance winner looking to roll back the years

With extra each-way places available, our tipsters have their expert eye on the oldest runner among the 14 runners lining up in the very last race on Tuesday’s evening all-weather card at Newcastle.

The top four in the betting are all priced between 4/1 and 6/1, suggesting tentative support that might leave room in the frame for an outsider, should any of them falter in such a competitive-looking sprint.

With that in mind, our vote here goes to the old boy Tathmeen, who has been a consistent performer for Antony Brittain since first hitting the track back in 2017.

This nine-year-old gelding is a three-time time course-and-distance winner who needs everything to drop right and he should hopefully find conditions to his liking here as a race of this nature can play to his strengths.

Tathmeen was last seen 19 days ago at Wolverhampton, where he stayed on very well from the rear, and although fifth of eight, he was barely more than a couple of lengths behind the winner, despite being poorly placed after a poor break.

However, he did show enough to prove that his better qualities are still there, even at this veteran stage of his career, and he will need to display more of the same as he takes on the highest class company he has faced in over a year.

In Tathmeen's favour, a drop in weights brings him close to his last winning mark, which was over this course and distance half a dozen outings ago in March, and with the capable Cam Hardie at the reins, he could be a major player here at a very tasty price.

Suggested Bet: Tathmeen each-way in the 20:30 at Newcastle
