Kempton free racing tip: Drop in class can spell success for in-form filly

Kempton Park

With the nights drawing in, all-weather floodlit action takes centre stage, and this six-furlong sprint at Kempton looks likely to give the Wednesday evening race-going faithful a race to savour.

20:00 Kempton: Happy 70th Birthday Paul Cox Handicap (6 furlongs)

While early market leaders Crafty Spirit and The Real Mckay are expected to justify their support with prominent runs, they will need to look out for Bint Havana Gold, who is lurking in the wings at tidy odds.

Richard Hughes’ three-year-old filly has made the frame in seven of her ten outings this year, and her two victories include a course-and-distance success here back in January.

She arrives on the back of a promising effort when last seen at Lingfield in late July, staying on very well from the rear of the field and finishing a close-up third and running a pretty decent speed figure in the process - certainly showing enough promise to suggest that her turn to strike again is likely to come sooner rather than later

Both the winner and runner-up in that 0-68 handicap were rated higher than any of her rivals here, and this daughter of Havana Gold is expected to give a good account in this slightly lower-class 0-65 affair.

The handicapper has eased her down a pound in the weights, and with regular jockey Ethan Jones also taking off a very handy 5lbs, she looks good value to earn herself an overdue parade around the winner’s enclosure.

Suggested Bet: Bint Havana Gold in the 20:00 at Kempton
