Kempton free racing tip: Unbeaten favourite faces stiffest challenge yet on handicap debut

Unbeaten Cognisance appears to hold all the aces for William Haggas after following up her debut success at Redcar with a harder-fought win over this course and distance 23 days ago.

However, on this first taste of handicap company, she will have to keep her eye on Eleftheria, who has shown really good aptitude and attitude for racing, having chalked up two wins and two places from her six outings so far this year.

The Paul and Oliver Cole-trained filly was last seen 16 days ago at Southwell where she finished a modest third of seven under Rossa Ryan.

That run was over an extended mile, but she drops back in trip to seven furlongs here, which should present few problems as she kicked off her 2024 campaign with a tidy win over this trip at Chelmsford, and she seems better suited by the shorter distance.

This good-looking chestnut can really stick her neck out when it counts, as she proved again at this very venue three outings ago, when she again found her way into the winner’s enclosure.

She certainly seems to enjoy a good duel at the finish so any challengers in the closing stages will not have it easy against Eleftheria, who is still on a favourable mark and has been presented a tidy low draw in stall 1.

The yard is in decent form of late with three winners from their last dozen runners (including 18/1 shot Hurricane Power at Windsor on Monday) while the three-pound claim of jockey Sean Dylan Bowen can only enhance her chances of having a say over on the business end of this competitive handicap.
