Viktor Hovland joins Europe's Ryder Cup team
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has named Viktor Hovland as the third member of Team Europe.
The Norwegian joins Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, the only players ahead of him on the World Points list. Donald revealed the news in a succinct post on social media on Tuesday.
"My man!! Welcome to the party! 3 down, 9 to go," he captioned on Twitter.
Hovland has been busy in 2023, earning four top-ten finishes and a victory at The Memorial Tournament in June, his eighth professional win. He also finished runner-up at the PGA Championship in May.
At the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, Hovland became the first Norwegian to feature in the team event.
It wasn't Team Europe's finest outing as they went down 19-9, with Hovland earning just one point with his 0-3-2 record. Hovland teamed up with Tommy Fleetwood to halve against Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay in Friday's fourballs, while he tied with Collin Morikawa in the singles on Sunday.
As things stand, Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood occupy the remaining positions to make Team Europe. Donald will then make his six captain's picks.
The 44th Ryder Cup begins on 29 September at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club near Rome.
