What Edwards lacks in notoriety, he makes up for in confidence. And the 5ft 3in fighter, who made his professional debut in 2016, is very active on social media.
Referring to himself as a 'Twitter Terrorist,' Edwards is on a mission to raise his profile.
Edwards is the current IBF world flyweight champion, a title he has defended four times.
Edwards beats Campos
Edwards beat tough Chilean Andres Campos at Wembley Arena by unanimous decision in June 2023 - his fourth defence of the IBF world flyweight title.
It was a boxing masterclass from the Londoner of showboating, quick footwork and flashy combinations.
Edwards does not generally knock opponents out, but rather dismantles them with his quick punches and slick movement, and he did just that against Campos.
He earned three scores of 117-111 against Campos, who came back into the fight late on.
His new promoter Eddie Hearn says Edwards has "the potential to be a pound-for-pound star", drawing comparisons with the great Prince Naseem Hamed.
Who will Edwards fight next?
After defending his IBF title four times Edwards has his heart set on unifying the division.
Edwards looks capable of mixing it with the best and the plan is for Edwards to meet unbeaten WBO champion Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez next.
"I guarantee you he (Edwards) will be in a unification fight next," said Hearn,
Julio Cesar Martinez (20-2) and Artem Dalakian (22-0) are the other champions at 112 pounds, in the WBC and WBA, respectively.
Becoming world champion
Edwards became world champion in April 2021 with a shock win over South African Moruti Mthalane.
Edwards was the ultimate slickster and switched between orthodox and southpaw stances as he showed the hard-hitting Mthalane how to stick and move.
The York Hall judges had it 120-108, 118-111 and 115-113 all in favour of Edwards who handed his opponent his first loss in nearly 13 years. Mthalane's last defeat had come against Nonito Donaire back in November 2008.
Edwards' first title defence
Edwards successfully defended his IBF title against Jayson Mama in Dubai in December 2021.
He had been all set to defend his IBF flyweight title for the first time against Mama on September 11, when he injured his ankle and had to postpone the fight.
But he only had to wait a few months before easily disposing of the mandatory challenger. He even scored a 10th-round knockdown and was rarely troubled by the previously undefeated Mama.
The three judges delivered 117-110, 118-109, 118-109 scorecards in the defending champion's favour.
Edwards vs Muhammad Waseem
Edwards' second title defence saw him see off Pakistan's Muhammad Waseem in Dubai in March 2022.
Edwards once again produced a skill level way above his opponent, who had lost only once previously. And he was also cheered on at Dubai's Duty Free Tennis Stadium by some high-profile figures - namely Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
Wassem was highly regarded in Asia, with Edwards confirming his opponent was ranked first in the WBA, third in the IBF and fifth with the WBC.
The London fighter took the verdict on the cards - 115-111, 116-110, 115-111 - to retain the title
Edwards' victory over Waseem took his record to 18-0. And the fact he has gone the distance in every fight is why Edwards believes he is the best in the business.
"I'm actually the best flyweight in the world arguably the universe it's crazy," he tweeted.
Edwards, Hearn relationship
The Edwards' and Hearn did not see eye to eye. Although Edwards did say he would now play "nice" in a bid to get a title clash with Julio Cesar Martinez.
Martinez fought Sunny's brother Charlie in 2019. But the bout was ruled a no contest due to Martinez landing blows when Edwards was already down on the canvas.
"The personal story and back history which happened with my brother," Edwards told The Mirror.
"No contest and Eddie Hearn walked to the ring with my brother and then even though he didn't lose, pretty much walked out of the ring with Martinez as he had signed him.
"So there is a lot that goes into it, but as I said previously, play nice and I will get the fight. So here is me being nice, Eddie Hearn is the best promoter in the world.
"Anywhere in the world I would take any fight. Wherever you think the fight makes the most sense and makes the most money. Of course there could be a bigger profile but a boxing ring is a boxing ring. You tell me where you want me to go and off we go."
Edwards signs for Matchroom
For all the animosity though the pair linked up in March 2023, with Edwards joining the growing Matchroom stable on DAZN.
And Hearn revealed why he decided to sign the talented Edwards.
"This young man is a phenomenon, but I never really used to like him," Hearn said.
"Say what you feel Eddie," Edwards replied.
But Edwards is already reaping the rewards having signed with Hearn.
"If anything, I can't believe the money I'm getting for this fight, for real Eddie, it's mind-blowing," said Edwards.
What is Edwards worth?
As of June 2023, Sunny Edwards' net worth is said to be around £2m.
Edwards is understood to have earned around $400,000 from his win over Campos and while the majority of his money is earned inside the ring, he did have some big sponsors in the fight.
Fighting at an unfashionable weight Edwards has always been up against it, but Everlast, Sports Direct and Suzi Wong fight wear are all in Edwards' corner.
