Anthony Joshua enemy lined up as shock next opponent after talks with Dillian Whyte ‘break down’

Anthony Joshua

A former foe of Anthony Joshua is reportedly being lined up as a potential opponent for the Brit after talks with Dillian Whyte ‘broke down’.

American heavyweight Jarrell Miller is reportedly being targeted as an opponent for Anthony Joshua when the Brit fights at the O2 Arena in August.

Joshua and Miller were previously due to face off in New York in 2019 but this bout was pulled after the American tested positive for multiple banned substances.

The build-up to this clash was tense and the rivals have continued to exchange words in the years since the fight was first called off.

Sky Sports are reporting that Miller 'is set to be offered as a replacement opponent' for Joshua after 'talks for a Whyte rematch broke down'.

Miller's promoter - Dmitriy Salita - 'has confirmed he is going to put forward' his boxer for a 'potential fight with Joshua'.

Joshua's team have already booked the O2 Arena for August 12, with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn confirming that their offer to Whyte was "nowhere near" his "expectations".

"We made him an offer which they made it clear was nowhere near their expectations, and, quite honestly, there were very little negotiations after that," Hearn told Boxing Social.

"He never asked for ten million. Not sure where that came from."

Joshua's fight in August will precede his almighty bout against Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia this December.

As a warm-up for Wilder, Hearn has suggested that Joshua will be fighting "anyone" ranked "in the top fifteen".
"Anyone in the top fifteen. I don't mind being honest - AJ's going to fight Deontay Wilder in December - that's our 100% focus," Hearn added.
"So, he needs a fight against someone who's going to allow him to work on, under the lights, everything he's been working on with Derrick James.
"There's no point fighting a fight that's against someone he's going to take out in a round. And it's difficult to fight an elite, top three of five guy when you're fighting Deontay Wilder four months later."
