Adam Azim

Adam Azim

Adam Azim is regarded as the biggest prospect in British boxing after outclassing all of his opponents to date.

Azim was born in Slough, Berkshire, but his family roots are in Kotli in Pakistan's Azad Kashmir.

Boxing was in his blood with his father being a boxing trainer, while his elder brother Hassan Azim is also a professional boxer.
He is currently the EBU European light-welterweight champion after beating Franck Petitjean in November 2023.

Decorated amateur

Azim had an exceptional amateur career winning 10 national Titles, one European Championship and a European silver medal. He also won every national title from schoolboys to youths, and was ranked the number one youth amateur in the world at welterweight.
He turned pro on his 18th birthday in July 2020 and signed with MTK Global.

Azim's first pro fight

Azim fought the tough Ed Harrison in his first pro fight in December 2020.
Harrison had come off the back of a points win over Mohammad Bilal Ali and he was regarded as a tough first opponent for Azim.
Azim's snapping jab was in evidence and his lightning hand speed was also evident. He prevailed with the referee awarding all six rounds to the debutant.

Azim vs Stu Greener

Azim was on the card at Wembley Arena next time out in November 2021 against Stu Greener. And he quickly showed why Shane McGuingan rates him so highly.
Azim floored Greener with a right hook in the first round and another right hook dumped Greener to the canvas just seconds into the next round.
Azim's punishing bodyshots were a highlight of the short contest and it was no surprise to see the referee wave off the bout early in round two.
Azim celebrated his victory with a trademark backflip.
"It was fantastic," said trainer McGuigan."He's come out, he's entertained, he's given you a knockout win.
"I think this kid is going to be a special, special talent."

Knockout highlights reel

The victory over Greener was a sign of things to come because his next five fights all went the same way.
Jordan Ellison, Connor Marsden, Anthony Loffet, Michel Cabral and Rylan Charlton were all knocked out.
Marsden, Loffet and Cabral did not make it past the first round as Azim's speed and power proved too much.
Marsden walked on to a huge shot inside the first 10 seconds in March 2022 and was blown away soon after with a couple of left hooks.
Loffet lasted just 30 seconds in June of the same year with the Belgian's corner throwing in the towel soon after their man had been sent to the canvas.
Azim made a distinct step up in class against Cabral. But the Argentinian, who had never been stopped, was no match for Azim's punishing bodyshots and he failed to get up from a right hook

Adam Azim vs Santos Reyes

Azim continued his impressive rise up the pro ranks with a dominant, unanimous points decision win over Santos Reyes in February 2023.
It was the first time he had failed to win by knockout, but Reyes was also the first undefeated opponent he had faced in his professional career.
Even though he didn't get the knockout, the judges decision was completely unanimous with all three scoring it 100-89.
Azim also flattened Reyes in the second round with a clubbing right hand before recovering to go the 10 rounds.

Aram vs Fanyan

The Slough man was scheduled to fight Aram Fanyan at York Hall on June 16, 2023, but a severe hand infection saw that match-up called off.
Azim is thought to have sustained the infection when he suffered a cut knuckle on his left hand in a training session several weeks before the bout and his return to the ring will be rescheduled.
Azim and Fanyan finally met in Manchester in September 2023, with the British fighter moving his professional record to 9-0 after an impressive points victory over the tough Ukrainian.

Aram vs Petitjean

Azim became the new European light-welterweight champion after stopping Franck Petitjean in round ten in November 2023.

The defending champion was dropped in the fifth with a body shot, and the ref stopped the fight in the tenth after a flurry of head shots from Azim put him down for a second time.

BOXXER and Sky Sports

'Azim signed a "lucrative" four-year deal with Sky Sports and BOXXER in November 2022.
Azim said: "I am delighted to sign a long-term deal with BOXXER and Sky Sports."

"Working with him has been easy," Boxxer founder and CEO Ben Shalom told The Independent. "All he wants to do is fight; he would do it for free, he absolutely loves it.

"I've never met someone as focused as he is. It's sometimes hard for Shane [McGuigan, coach] to calm him down, but it's been a pleasure."
