Wimbledon men's singles semi-finals: Tips and suggested bets

Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon

Planet Sport presents tips and suggested bets for the Wimbledon men's singles semi-finals.

Two of the men's singles semi-finalists at Wimbledon are a surprise while the other two have shaken off concerns to find their best form and justify their favourite status.

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are a match away from securing a rematch of last season's incredible final.

Alcaraz, in particular, shouldn't be getting too far ahead of himself considering he was stunned by semi-final foe Daniil Medvedev in the last four at the US Open last year which denied him a third Major final against Djokovic in the year.

Djokovic might be wary of the upset as well considering his stunning loss to Lorenzo Musetti at the Monte Carlo Masters last term. However, Djokovic has since avenged that loss twice over. The Serbian bested Musetti at Monte Carlo this season and also beat him in the French Open.

Alcaraz turned things around against Medvedev in Turin and Indian Wells in subsequent clashes and he leads their head-to-head 4-2. This will be the third clash between these players at Wimbledon with Medvedev winning the first in straight sets in 2021 before Alcaraz repaid the favour in 2023.

Musetti spent close to three and a half hours on court in defeating Taylor Fritz in the last eight and meets a player who enjoyed free passage through the quarterfinals with Alex De Minaur pulling out with injury ahead of his scheduled quarter-final against Djokovic.

Alcaraz has spent two hours more on the court than Medvedev to reach this stage but the Russian had the longest of the quarter-final matches with his win over Jannik Sinner timed at four hours.

Wimbledon men's singles semi-finals: Daniil Medvedev vs Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz has occasionally lost focus towards the end of long sets and has coughed up a few 5-7 set losses through his run at Wimbledon. Medvedev might be just the player to seize on such an opportunity and take the opening set by that scoreline.

If you're going into the exact score of the first set you might also consider backing Medvedev for the set win to sweeten the pot given that the world No 4 has defied expectations at this Wimbledon.

While their two previous clashes at Wimbledon have been over fairly quickly this one looks set up to be an epic battle. Alcaraz winning this 3-2 could be the match outcome that triggers a windfall for punters.

Medvedev might just fall short at the end of the day but he should be able to get in ahead of a +1.5 handicap.

Wimbledon men's singles semi-finals: Lorenzo Musetti vs Novak Djokovic

On the big stage, it is likely that Musetti might struggle to get out of the blocks and Djokovic will be zeroed in on taking the advantage. The Serbian just seems nailed on to win that opening set.

Djokovic took the first set in his loss to Musetti in Monte Carlo 6-4 and the Italian has coughed up two first-set losses at that scoreline during his Wimbledon run.

Musetti will find his fight but it is quite likely that he won't manage to get more than one set win off of Djokovic on this occasion.

The total sets over (3.5) would align well with a punt on a 3-1 scoreline in favour of the seven-time Wimbledon champion.
