Tallon Griekspoor has the unenviable task of taking on Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles tennis second round at Paris 2024.

Olympics Men's Singles: Daniel Evans vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Daniel Evans has given up four matches out of four when facing Stefanos Tsitsipas with the Brit yet to best the Greek No 1.

Tsitsipas has produced terrific tennis in patches this season but could really use the lift of a medal in Paris.

Evans showed great fight to help Andy Murray extend his farewell run in the doubles but might find himself overpowered and outmatched here.

Tsitsipas is a tricky player to face on clay with his frequent slices inhibiting the rhythm of his opponents.

 

Olympics Men's Singles: Dominik Koepfer vs Matteo Arnaldi

Matteo Arnaldi and Dominik Koepfer go head-to-head for the first time in their careers.

The Italian has the better record on clay this season and also holds the edge in current ranking over his German rival.

Arnaldi impressively put away home hope Arthur Fils in the opening round to show great form and sound a warning to this field.

Koepfer battled through a trio of tiebreaks in a marathon two-hour and 25-minute first-round win over Milos Raonic.

 

Olympics Men's Singles: Sebastian Baez vs Benjamin Hassan

Benjamin Hassan will set out to embarrass another top player after his shock demolition of Christopher Eubanks.

However, Sebastian Baez poses a very different challenge to the American and is ranked in the top 20 players in the world.

Baez had no problem putting away his first-round opponent and should charge to victory over world No 170 Hassan.

The Argentine star has a superior career and season record on clay ahead of the first meeting between these players.

 

Olympics Men's Singles: Tallon Griekspoor vs Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz will want to keep all thoughts of an upset far away from his Chartrier clash with Tallon Griekspoor.

Griekspoor has a win over Alcaraz but hasn't had much luck against the updated versions of the Spaniard.

Alcaraz has been at his best over the last few months and there is little to suggest he won't sweep Griekspoor aside with relative ease.

Griekspoor will have to avoid trying to match Alcaraz for dynamism and play a more patient game.

 

Olympics Women's Singles: Maria Carle vs Coco Gauff

Argentina's Maria Carle poses a big threat to Coco Gauff's medal hopes in a first-ever meeting of the players at senior level.

Gauff has beaten Carle at junior Grand Slams in 2017 and 2018 but those matches are unlikely to inform their Olympic meeting.

Carle obliterated Tatjana Maria in a double bagel in the opening round while Gauff dropped just three games in breezing beyond Alja Tomljanovic.

Gauff should be able to deal with what the adept clay courter can bring but this might be a tighter contest than it looks on paper.

 

Olympics Women's Singles: Maria Sakkari vs Yue Yuan

This will be the third time that Maria Sakkari and Yue Yuan play each other.

Sakkari is yet to lose against Yuan claiming the first two meetings in straight sets.

Sakkari might feel the field has opened up for her for a big medal push but she cannot look too far ahead.

Yuan's clay form this season hasn't been great and Sakkari has her bested in match wins on the surface as well as ranking.

 

Olympics Women's Singles: Caroline Wozniacki vs Danielle Rose Collins

Caroline Wozniacki fought back from a set down to win through to this second round but faces another tough opponent ion Danielle Collins.

While they have faced each other three times, these players have not shared a court since 2019.

Collins has 17 match wins on clay this season and has that extra push in what will be her final Olympics.

Wozniacki might feel this could also be her last Olympics and she won't go down without a fight.

 

Olympics Women's Singles: Jessica Pegula vs Elina Svitolina

Jessica Pegula has beaten Elina Svitolina in the last four matches they have contested but the Ukrainian has a shot at revenge on a surface that will favour her game.

Svitolina and Pegula have never faced each other on clay before and Svitolina has the better French Open record.

Pegula will be out to make up for a disappointing dip in form recently but Svitolina will be tough to get beyond.

Svitolina has played and won more matches on clay this season than Pegula and that will count in her favour.
