Emma Raducanu still British No 1 after Jodie Burrage misses out in Saint Malo

Emma Raducanu has held on to her position as British No 1 - for now - after Jodie Burrage failed to get past Greet Minnen at the WTA Saint Malo event in France.
Jodie Burrage will have to wait for another chance to overtake Emma Raducanu as British number one after losing to Greet Minnen at the WTA event in Saint Malo.
Raducanu will drop out of the top 100 after pulling out of the Madrid Open and subsequently undergoing hand surgery, which will keep her off court for several months.
Burrage has emerged as the leading challenger in what has so far been a disappointing season for the British women, climbing to the brink of a top-100 debut.
The 23-year-old could have moved past Raducanu at the first opportunity by beating Belgian Minnen in the second round in France but fell to a 6-4 6-3 defeat, meaning Britain will have no women in the top 100 next week for the first time in more than a decade.
Burrage won her biggest title so far, on the second tier ITF tour, in France in March and has a good chance over the next few weeks to crack the top 100 and claim domestic top spot.
Currently ranked 110, she has a lot of points to defend on the grass, and the likes of Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, Katie Swan and Heather Watson will all have their sights set on British supremacy while Raducanu is sidelined.
