Daniil Medvedev books place in Vienna Open final with win over Stefanos Tsitsipas

Daniil Medvedev reached his ninth ATP Tour final of the year when he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to reach the final of the Vienna Open on Saturday.

The Russian, defending the title he won last year, beat his long-time rival from Greece 6-4 7-6 (6) and now leads 9-4 in their personal head-to-head.

Medvedev made just 10 unforced errors and saved all three break points he faced on his way to a ninth final of the season.

“I served well throughout the whole match,” said the world number three on court.

“In general I am happy with how I served and put pressure on him on a lot of points. I had a lot of opportunities and he played well on them also. Generally, this pressure paid off at the end of the match.”

Medvedev will face Italian Jannik Sinner, who beat Russia’s Andrey Rublev 7-5, 7-6 (5), in Sunday’s final.
