Weekend football acca: Goals on the menu at Old Trafford, Cardiff and Swindon
After enjoying a well-earned rest during the international break, Rhys Tovey, who runs his AGF football service on Tipstrr, returns with his best bets from each of the top four English divisions.
Can he hit the ground running to land us a tasty winning acca as domestic football takes centre stage once more?
Man Utd vs Brighton (Both Teams to Score)
Brighton have started the new season very much how they ended the last: playing an exciting, free-scoring brand of football, but looking far less impressive defensively, and both teams to score has landed in all four of their fixtures so far.
Manchester United’s games have only seen it come in twice so far, as they failed to score away from home against an impressive Tottenham side despite finishing the match with a higher xG than Tottenham, who scored twice.
Their only clean sheet came in their opening game at home to Wolves, who themselves had a higher xG than United that game, as well as a clear-cut penalty not being given.
It would appear that both sides are good enough going forward (as well as weak enough defensively) for each of them to find the net on Saturday.
Cardiff vs Swansea (Both Teams to Score)
The Championship selection comes from the South Wales Derby between Cardiff City and Swansea City, and the both teams to score line has won in all five league games for each of these sides.
Local derbies can often be tight, cagey affairs, but this exact fixture last April finished 3-2 to Swansea, and with the match taking place on Saturday night, an hour or two after Wales’ Rugby World Cup match finishes, I’m expecting a very raucous atmosphere in the stands which could easily boil over to cause thrills and spills on the pitch.
Bolton vs Reading (Bolton to win)
It’s been another tough week for Reading fans after the club was hit with a three-point deduction. After suffering relegation last season, the club looked to slowly be moving in the right direction (on the pitch at least), picking up back-to-back home wins.
This week’s news will have soured the mood around the club to a new low, just before current title favourites Bolton Wanderers visit this Saturday.
Having started the season on fire with three successive wins, Bolton hit a bit of a stumbling block, losing 4-0 at home to Wigan and then drawing at Burton.
They’ll be hoping they’ve got things back on track after beating title rivals (according to the bookies) Derby County 2-1 last time out and will surely see Saturday’s fixture as a real chance to continue their promotion charge by taking advantage of the negativity currently surrounding the Reading camp.
Swindon vs Walsall (Over 2.5 Goals)
The League Two selection is once again an Over 2.5 goals selection. Swindon Town’s matches have so far seen a whopping 31 goals scored, an average of just over 5 per game.
There’s been a minimum of four goals scored in each of their three home games, and they’ve also accumulated the highest xG in the league so far, despite playing a game less than the majority.
This weekend they’re up against Walsall, who have also started the season strongly in front of goal. They’ve scored in all nine fixtures they’ve played this season and only kept one clean sheet.
In their away fixtures, both teams have scored in all five of them, with an average of 4.6 goals per game.

Man Utd vs Brighton Both Teams to Score (1/3)
