Scotland vs England betting tips: Steve Clarke’s men to bag first win over Auld Enemy since 1999

Scotland beat Spain

Scotland will face their arch-rivals England at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening in an international friendly and Robbie Savage is expecting the home side to spring a surprise.

Scotland take on England, both in great positions to qualify for the European Championship. But this time it's a friendly at Hampden.

Scotland's last win against England at Hampden came back in 1985.

Scotland are flying, five straight victories and unbeaten in six games at home, they take on England who got that 1-1 draw against Ukraine in Poland in their last game.

It's going to be such an intriguing encounter.

Scotland are full of energy and you know that Hampden Park crowd will be right behind them. And on that basis and with the confidence Steve Clarke's men are showing, I think Scotland will win this one 2-1.

Robbie’s pick: Scotland 2-1 England

Scotland vs England team news

Scotland look to have come through their qualifying win against Cyprus unscathed, so Steve Clarke should have a full squad to choose from.

Ryan Porteous, John McGinn and Scott McTominay all scored in that match and while all three of those are expected to start, there could be changes elsewhere.

Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Patterson and Kenny McLean all featured from the bench on Friday and will be hoping for a start.

England are more likely to ring the changes given the depth they have. Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden, Kieran Trippier and Levi Colwill could all start.

Kalvin Phillips deputise for Jordan Henderson to help win what will be a feisty midfield battle, Harry Kane will continue in attack and Eberechi Eze could make an appearance off the bench.

Key stats

- Scotland are one of the form teams in international football, winning all five of their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
- The last two meetings between the sides have resulted in a draw, meaning England are unbeaten in five meetings this century.
- Steve Clarke’s side have lost just one of their 11 previous home matches.
- England are unbeaten in 24 matches outside of tournament football.

Other bets to consider

Scotland have been fantastic in qualifying, winning all five of their matches to top the group. It may not be official, but the Tartan Army are going to Germany.

The 2-0 win against Spain at Hampden Park is the pick of the bunch but the last-gasp turnaround in Norway is equally impressive, so England beware.

Gareth Southgate’s side sleepwalked through most of their 1-1 draw against Ukraine but escaped with a point thanks to the brilliance of Harry Kane and Kyle Walker.

If they repeat that level of performance against the Scots then it’s very likely the hosts will be getting one over on the Auld Enemy.

That said, the players will be under no illusions that this will be a blood-and-thunder affair where they’ll need to be at their physical and mental best.

The old foes cancelled each other out when they met at Wembley during Euro 2022 and although England had the marginally higher xG, neither side deserved to win.

We expect another close encounter and given the form of the hosts, it’s hard to see past them scoring. That said, can they be expansive while keeping England quiet?
