Rotherham vs Ipswich tips and predictions: Free scoring Blues to go top with big win over Millers

Ipswich Town Marcus Harness

Ipswich are the only side keeping pace with league leaders Leicester at the moment and Kieran McKenna will be hoping that remains the case when his men travel to Rotherham on Friday night (2000 BST).

The Tractor Boys have kicked off their first season back in the Championship like a house on fire.

Victory over Rotherham this Friday night would see them enter the weekend as the table toppers.

Date, KO time and TV coverage

Championship, Friday, October 20, Kick-off 8.00pm, live on Sky Sports

Predicted score

Rotherham 1-4 Ipswich

Verdict

After 11 games, Ipswich have already amassed 28 points courtesy of nine victories and a draw.

Only league leaders Leicester City have done better with 10 victories from their opening 11 matches.

One of the reasons behind the success at Ipswich is their ability to score goals – and lots of them.

McKenna’s men are the highest-goalscorers in the competition with 25 to their name. That’s two more than Leicester.

Town have been particularly deadly in recent weeks, bagging 15 goals across their last five outings in all competitions.

Ipswich scored four against Blackburn, three against Wolves in the cup, one against Huddersfield, three against Hull and, most recently, four against third-placed Preston in a 4-2 win.

On paper, getting one over Rotherham shouldn’t be too difficult.

The Millers are chasing just their seventh league win of this calendar year, and their second of this current campaign.

Rotherham are second-bottom in the standings with six points to their name from 11 outings.

Matt Taylor’s men have conceded a league-high 22 goals and head into Friday’s fixture on the back of a six-match winless run.

However, there are a couple of positive points for the Millers as well. The side picked up two draws before the international break against promotion chasing clubs in Southampton and Preston.

Their sole win, meanwhile, came against another top team in Norwich City.

Despite this, we have to be realistic. Ipswich are scoring goals for fun and we expect that to continue at the New York Stadium.

From a betting perspective, we’re backing the Tractor Boys in the handicap market.

Ipswich -2 handicap

Over 3.5 goals
