Football at the Paris 2024 Olympics gets underway on Wednesday as Argentina, Spain and France kick off their campaigns and we’ve compiled an opening day acca.
There are eight football matches taking place at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday afternoon and the tournament favourites are our focus.
We’ve compiled a three-team acca that features outright favourites Argentina, Spain and France.
Wednesday’s Olympic football acca
Argentina vs Morocco
We won’t know exactly how either of these teams will gel until we see them in action, but it’s safe to assume the full internationals will have the biggest impact. In particular, World Cup winners Thiago Almada and Julian Alvarez should be able to grab games by the scruff of the neck. Another difference could be having the experience of Otamendi in the heart of defence.
Uzbekistan vs Spain
Spain’s squad are still building partnerships on the pitch but as is the case with Argentina, there’s far too much quality, which leads us to believe they could look a little disjointed and still breeze through matches like this based on individual quality. The likes of Alex Baena and Fermin Lopez should have too much quality for the Uzbeki defence to handle, plus a number of these Spanish players have featured together at young age groups.
France vs United States
There’s a massive gulf in class between these squads. The States could be tough to break down given their defence features team of MLS’ best in Walker Zimmerman and Caleb Wiley, but the difference in forward areas is stark. While they’ll likely deploy Vitesse loanee Paxten Aaronson in attacking midfield, France can call on Bayern Munich’s new man Michael Olise, who may be feeding Alexandre Lacazette and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
