Ligue 1 final day betting tips: Jonathan David to fire Lille to top-four finish
Football betting expert Paul Bathurst shared Bayern Munich's joy with last weekend's winning bet. He searches for another in Lille’s final Ligue 1 game against Troyes.
Lille flattered to deceive last season, which resulted in them finishing 10th with the likes of Nantes, Lens and Strasbourg all ending in higher positions. This season has been a good campaign, but it will become brilliant if they can beat Troyes and secure a top-four finish.
Fourth place would see Lille qualify for the Europa League, a competition their manager Paulo Fonseca would likely see as one his side have a realistic chance of winning.
Troyes have struggled this season and will be plying their trade in Ligue 2 next season. The most disappointing thing for the Grand Est side is that they started the campaign well but the wheels have fallen off.
They've failed to win any of their last 20 league matches, losing 15 times. It's an astounding run for any side in a major European league, so it's no surprise they were relegated a while ago. But can they stop the rot and spoil Lille's party?
The odds are stacked against them when you consider Troyes are the poorest-performing home team in Ligue 1, having won just one of their 18 at the Stade de l'Aube.
Suggested bet:
Lille -2 Asian handicap
Although they narrowly defeated relegation-threatened Nantes 2-1 at home last weekend, Lille came close to handing the initiative to fellow Europa League hopefuls Rennes and Monaco.
A late penalty from top scorer Jonathan David secured the win, which could prove the difference by the end of play on Saturday. One downside was the hosts missed the creativity of Angel Gomes in midfield, but he has served a suspension and will be available this weekend.
On paper, Lille should win this game comfortably and Fonseca will not allow his side to display any complacency, despite facing a side already resigned to their fate of relegation.
Lille could come out firing on all cylinders and look to bag some early goals to prevent teams around them from applying some pressure late in the match.
Jonathan David is a candidate to add to his impressive tally of 24 goals this season on current form. The Canadian would need at least four goals to have an outside chance of catching Kylian Mbappe (28) in the race for the golden boot.
No side has conceded more goals than Troyes (80) this season which makes Lille -2 Asian handicap particularly tempting, whilst combining David to score and Lille to win could also be a profitable avenue to go down.
Suggested bet:
Jonathan David to score and Lille to win
