Leeds United vs Millwall tips and predictions: Whites to break Lions resolve and top table
Leeds United can go top of the Championship table when they face Neil Harris’ Millwall at Elland Road on Sunday (1500 GMT).
Leeds United were a whisker away from trailing Leicester by 17 points when Abdul Fatawu cut inside and rattled the crossbar at the King Power on November 3.
Fast forward four months and while the Foxes are gallivanting around London in the FA Cup, the Whites can go top of the Championship.
That should be a straightforward task given their current form, considering Daniel Farke's side have already beaten Millwall 3-0 this season.
But this league is never that straight forward and they’ll have to deal with a ghost of Championship’s past in Neil Harris, who has done exceptionally well to bag 10 points from four games.
Their shock 2-1 win against Southampton coincided with Leeds beating Leicester at Elland Road and were the first major blows landed in the final stretch.
Those following the Lions up to Yorkshire this weekend would like nothing more than to dent their old foes chances and that can’t be ruled out.
There were question marks over Leeds’ fitness levels after looking ragged at times against Huddersfield (1-1) and Stoke (1-0), but their emphatic display against Sheffield Wednesday squashed that talk.
What stands out about the visitors is despite being uncharacteristically shambolic at home for much of the season, they’ve been a tough nut to crack on the road.
They lost one of their first eight on their travels and Leicester had to come from behind to beat them. They’ve lost three of seven since but it tends to be by the odd goal.
That won’t deter Leeds too much. The Championship’s best defence has allowed three goals in 12 matches in 2024 but they’ve had some ding-dong battles with Millwall in the past.
They beat 10-man Leeds 4-3 at Elland Road as recently as 2018 and led Marcelo Bielsa’s side 2-1 and 2-0 in their last two visits before losing 3-2.
Neil Harris will set his side up to frustrate the hosts and while they may have some success, they’ll concede and the game will open up.
