Leeds United vs Norwich City tips and predictions: Nerves to make way for second-half drama
Leeds and Norwich are deadlocked 0-0 at the halfway stage of their Championship play-off semi-final, which will reconvene at Elland Road on Thursday (2000 BST).
Daniel Farke was the happier of the two managers after Norwich and Leeds drew 0-0 in the Championship play-off semi-finals on Sunday.
The Whites boss, often accused of being without a plan B, threw a curveball as he deployed a combative midfield with Archie Gray in an advanced role behind Georginio Rutter.
Gray got through plenty of work on both sides of the ball and played his part in Leeds largely controlling the tempo of the game.
David Wagner’s side threatened to get on top in the first half and created a couple of half-chances, but the second half belonged to the visitors.
In truth, neither side did enough to win, but it was clear that Farke’s goal was to tighten things up after several poor defensive showings in recent weeks.
The consensus is that United now hold a massive advantage, but play-off games can be chaotic, and it all depends on how the first 15 minutes play out at Elland Road.
City’s game plan in the early stages will mirror their second-half performance at Carrow Road. Keep in mind, we’ve seen Leeds struggle against such rearguard action.
If the visitors can pillage the first goal then, well, that sinking play-off feeling Leeds fans know all too well could return, and it could translate to the players.
However, an early goal for hosts should be enough to see them through. Farke’s side are at their absolute best when teams are attacking them.
Unless Norwich crumble like a Delia Smith meringue, then we expect this to be still a contest come the 60th minute, which is when things could open up and we should be treated to typical play-off drama.
